WILL of John Croxon of Purleigh 1624

In the name of God Amen. The 6th day of June in the year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord James by the grace of God King of England, France and Jutland, Defender of the Faith, and the 12th of Scotland, the 4th of Fitish .I John Croxon of Purleigh in the County of Essex. Yeoman. Being fit and sound in body yet of good and perfect remembrance thanks be to Almighty God. Knowing that all men by nature are bound to die, do therefore make publish and declare this my last will and testament, in writing, in manor and form following first and principally I recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God the blessed Trinity, the Father The Son and the Holy Ghost. Finally believing that all my sins of God, Great Mary, and Jesus Christ are freely atoned and done away and that after mortal life ended I shall have life everlasting in the heavens and my body I admit to ---- bury all at the discretion of my executors of this my last will an testament. And renouncing these worldly goods with God of his mercy bestowed on me, my mind and will is therefore as followeth. Firstly I will and do devise that Margaret my well beloved wife shall from time to time after my death have, receive and take the lease ---- of the messuage tenement Crohesin Jowell with the land and ground there unto belonging and other there apposite lying and being in the Parish of Purleigh aforesaid and Mundon or either of them in the county of Essex, for and during so many years as long time as my lease and term of years therein as the said Margaret shall fortune to life and I will . Item I do devise and give Robert Croxon my son my lease and term of years of and in the said messuage and lands and dependencies aforementioned with the appendage to have and to hold unto the said Robert Croxon his executors and heirs for and during all the rest of the said term of years there in to --- from and after the decease of the said Margaret my wife the said Robert Croxon his executors and heirs from time to time after the decease of my said wife during his interregnum in the --- to pay --- form and forkful and keep well and truly the yearly rent --- in the said tenure of the lease continued on behalf of me and my Hearst be affirmed paid and done. Item I give and bequeath unto the said Robert Croxon Twenty Pounds of Lawful English Money to be paid to him within six months after my decease and also I will and give unto the said Robert all my wearing apparel, rayments whatsoever. Item I give and bequeath unto Mary Croxon my daughter ten pounds of Lawful English Money to be paid to her within one month of my decease and twenty pounds of Lawful English Money to be paid to her by my executors of this my last will and testament in manor to be paid within one year next after my decease and if it should so happen anyone said --- depart out of this life before the time limit appointed for payment of the said sum of money and legacy to them given and bequeathed by this my last will and testament then my mind and will is that the power and sums of him or her predeceasing shall remain and be paid unto the living to accomplish unto the times limited and appointed for the payment there by this my ---- All the rest of my goods -------- of what kind --- household stuff and implements of household and husbandry, wine, grains, and blades of ---- ready money and debts and what so ever ills. I here on or may dispose of that testimony just formerly bequeathed by this my last will and testament I fully and wholly give unto the said MARGARET my wife whom I make and ordain to be my sole executor of this my last will and testament and I do require and charge her to pay my funeral expenses and debts and legacies by this my last will bequeathed provided always that my mind and will is that the said Margaret my wife before then shall take upon her the probate and execution of this my last will and testament or shall intermeddle with there administration of my goods and chattels shall become bound by deed or obligatory fulfilment in the law in the sum of one hundred pounds unto Ismole Strange and James Forryt of Purleigh aforesaid Yeomen. That the said Margaret her executors or heirs shall duly and truly discharge and pay the yearly rent reserved and payable upon and by tenant of the lease of me made of the messuage land and tenement and premises aforementioned with the appenditure wherein I now dwell for so long time as the said Margaret or her heirs shall or may have the ----- of the said messuage---- by and according to the tenor and bequests of this my will and that the said Margaret and her heirs shall preserve and keep the said lease from ills and forfeiture and all that the said Margaret shall duly and truly discharge and pay the legacies and sums of money formally bequeathed by this my last will and testament to the obligatory and legality there of anything before this my last will contained to the contrary not withstanding.
