WILL of John Croxton of Hawkwell 1634
In the name of God Amen .The 18th day of November 1634. I John Croxton of Hawkwell in the county of Essex Yeoman being fit in body but of good and a pleche amen brain thanks being unto Almighty God do make and order this my last will and testament in manor and form to followings. First I give and bequeath my soul unto the hands of God my Creator hoping by the merits of Jesus Christ to be saved and my body to be buried according to deforiation of my Executor. Item. I give and bequeath unto Joane my beloved wife my farm at Crays called Neenes with all the outhouses barns stables land and uppurte munur belonging there unto. Item. I also give unto my beloved all my land with tenement which she may take down if she will which boards the name of Brooke Field being and tenanting by Oshmation there fore across more or less in the parish of Ramsden Bellhouse and my will that my fair wife Joane quietly and poawably pefsefss and enjoy all the aforesaid lands during the term of her natural life and after her decease my will is that it shall come unto my son John Croxton and to his heirs lawfully begotten for ever. Item .My will is that if my son should go without heirs lawfully of his body begotten that then it shall come and be equally divided betwixt my daughters Joane Croxton and Sarah Croxton and to their heirs for ever. Item. I give unto my son John Croxton Thirty pounds to be paid unto him at an age of one and twenty years and if he should dye to be equally divided betwixt my daughters Joane Croxton and Sarah Croxton. Item. I give unto my oldest daughter Joane Croxton Fifty pounds to be paid to her at the age of one and twenty years. Item. I give unto my daughter Sarah Croxton the like sum of Fifty pounds to be paid to her at the age of one and twenty years. Item. I give unto the poor if Hawkwell Forty shillings to be paid unto them within three months of my departure Item. I give unto my man William Saunders Twenty shillings to be paid unto him within one year of my departure. Item.All my debts being paid and discharged I give all my goods and chattel's, what former unbequeathed, unto Joane my beloved wife whom I make the sole executor of this my last will and testament. And I make my cousin Hawker, My brother Jeruobome, my brother Sorrell, my brother Croxton the overseers of this my last will and testament.
