In the name of God Amen. The second day of August in the thirty fifth year in the Reign of the sovereign Lord King Charles the second Anno Domini 1683 I Luke Croxton of Ely in the Isle of Ely in the county of Cambridge Chandler being sick and weak in body but in good and perfect remembrance praised be to Almighty God therefore revoke and make void all wills therefore to made Do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in Manor and form following. First and principally I commit my soul to Almighty God my creator and to Jesus Christ my lone Saviour and redeemer by and through who so pretious Deity and mercy. I hope and trust to have the full freedom of all my sins and to the Holy Ghost my saviour forever And my body I commit to the Earth to be deferentially in Christian burial in sure and plaine hope of a joyful resurrection unto life eternal.
And my worldly estate that God in his goodness hath bestowed upon me I give devise and bequeath unto Joseph Croxton my son all my shop standing and being in the Market Place of Ely late Cornelius Ffellong with the appurtances to hold to him my son Joseph and his assigns for and during the term of his natural life and to the use and behoof of his son Joseph my grandchild unto his heirs and assigns for ever after the decease of his said father. Item I give devise and bequeath unto my daughter Rebecca the wife of Richard Lawford three messuages first the house I lately lived in wherein Thomas Baxter now living in And also all the my messuages or tenements wherein William Rooke living in late Mithall Avingivors and also all that my messuage or tenement at or near the common Murkhill late Thomas Johnson in the occupation of John Butler with all and singular there and only there appurtenances except the ---- of fenn the marsh ground in the Isle of Ely to the said messuages or any of them allotted devise to her my said daughter Rebecca and her assigns for the duration of her whole term of her natural life And after her decease my will and mind is that the house were Thomas Baxter now living with the appurtenances shall be and remain Thomas Lawford son of my daughter Rebecca and his heirs and assigns forever And also my will is that the messuage or tenement where William Rooke now living late Mitchell Aungiers with the appurtenances after the decease of my daughter Rebecca shall be and remain Robert Lawford son of my daughter Rebecca and his heirs and assigns forever And the messuage or tenement at or near the Murkhill late Thomas Johnson with the orchard and other appurtenances shall be remained to the use and behoof of Sarah Lawford daughter of my Daughter Rebecca to her her heirs forever after the death of her mother. Item I give devise and bequeath unto Elizabeth Piggot daughter of Robert Piggot and Mary his wife all the my freehold close situated lying and being in Stunterey late Thomas Stewards Esq. to her my grandchild Elizabeth Piggot her heirs and assigns forever Item I give and bequeath unto my son in law Robert Piggot all those my two lotts of fenn or marsh ground being the later draughts decreed to the house Thomas Baxter lives in and the house of or near the common called Muckhill the said lot lying in one of Isles of Ely called North Farm in the occupation of Francis Leader at the use of my son Robert Piggot his heirs and assigns forever Item I give unto my son Joseph all my wearing cloths whatsoever Item I give unto my daughter Mary my bed with yellow curtains all bedding and furniture belonging to it. Item I give unto my daughter Rebecca my tester bed with all the striped curtains with all the bedding and furniture belonging to it and also my best chest The rest of my household goods I give unto my daughters Mary and Rebecca to be equally divided between them And my will is that the monies debts and duties I shall leave behind me at the time of my death not included in my will already given disposed of shall by my executors be among my three children Joseph Mary and Rebecca after my executors hath deducted all the necessary charges for bail proving This my will and other remaining charges with my funeral expenses Item I make my son in law Robert Piggot sole executor of this my last will and testament to see all things are done here unto And to see my body decently interred I witness that this is my last will and testament I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written
