WILL of Margaret Croxon of Purleigh 1628

In nomine God Amen. The 18th day of February in the year of the Lord God 1628 and in the fourth year of the reign of the sovereign Lord Charles by the grace of God King of England, Scotland, France and Ireland, Defender of the faith. I Margaret Croxon of the parish of Purleigh in the county of Essex. Widow. Being of good health and perfect memory, I give most heartfelt thanks unto God, therefore, yet knowing that all souls are mortal I do hereby establish and declare this my last will and testament in manor and form following. And first I doesth recommend my unto Almighty God my Creator and his only son Jesus Christ my only saviour, and redeemer by who so life, faith and passion, resurrection and accention suffered for me and all mankind , through shedding his blood. I trust and dorfledfas the believe to be saved and to be atoned among the number of his children at the last and great day of judgement, and my body I commit to the earth from whenst it was taken and to a decent and Christian burial at and by the discretion of the executor of this my will and toutling and commending the goods of this life the which it hath pleased god of his great mercy to send me I give and dispose there of do followeth:
INPRIMO. I give and bequeath hereby unto my eldest son James Dod the sum of ten shillings of good and lawful money of England to be paid unto him within six months after my decease. Item , I give and bequeath unto James the younger, being my grandchild and the son of the aforesaid son James, the full sum of ten pounds of good and lawful money of England to be paid unto him when that he be of full age of one and twenty years if he shall be then living otherwise the said pounds to remain to the executor. Item. I give and bequeath unto my daughter, being now the wife of Edmond Gatemore the sum of twenty pounds of lawful money of England ,to be paid to her at seven days after my decease hen as is here after mentioned that is to be paid ten pounds as there of at the end of one other year and a half next after my decease, and the other ten pounds at the end of one other year and half next following my decease, if the said Jane shall be thus living if not the said sum of ten pounds last mentioned to remain with the executor. Item I do give unto my daughter all my wearing apparel to be delivered unto her --- after my decease. Item, I give and bequeath unto my son in law James Manning ten shillings of lawful money of England to be paid unto him six months next after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto William Dod of Malden being my son in law the sum of ten shillings of good lawful money of England to be paid unto him within six months after my decease. Item. I give to the poor of Purleigh ten shillings. All the rest of my goods, chattels and household stuff what so ever I have my debts being paid , my will performed and my funeral expenses discharged I give unto my son Henry Dod whom I make sole executor of this my last will and testament. In witness thereof I the said Margaret Croxon have here unto put my hand and seal the day and year first above written
